When the Run button is pressed in DESelect, query activities are created that you can use elsewhere in Marketing Cloud, for example in Automation Studio.
The query activities generated by DESelect can be found at:
- Automation Studio > Activities > SQL Query > DESelect > Selections.
Each query activity that's generated will have the name of the selection, followed by a random number.
In case you are using deduplication in the selection, an additional query activity is created and run after the initial one. This one will have the name of the selection, followed by '-dedup', followed by a random number.
For example, if you have a selection called "Halloween Promotion 2020", your query activity will be called: "2020 Halloween Promotion 1600333453317". If you use the deduplication feature, you'll find an additional query activity called "Halloween Promotion 2020-Dedup 1600333453317".
When you click the Run button in DESelect, these query activities get started: first the standard query activity, and optionally also the deduplication query activity if deduplication is used.
Note that currently, these query activities are put inside an automation by DESelect. However, due to limitations of the way automations can be controlled via the API, DESelect is abandoning the use of automations to run these query activities.
Of course, you are free to add these query activities to an automation. Just beware of the order, the deduplication query needs to run second.
